Jews Rescued Jews Committee
Jews Rescued Jews now part of Yad Vashem Exhibit
Jerusalem, March 2005. In this photograph of a JRJ Executive Committee
meeting, Haim Roet and Marianne Picard hold two books recently published
by Yad Vashem with contents from the new Yad Vashem Museum. Both books
being held deal with the new category of Jews Rescued Jews. One room in
the new Yad Vashem does as well.
Back row (from Left): Ehud Loeb, saved by OSE in France. Mirjam Whartman,
saved by Max Leons, Dutch Jew in the Netherlands. Chana Arnon, from Netherlands,
fled to the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) with parents, in camps there.
Ilana Drukker, saved in Netherlands. Esther Reiss-Mossel originally from
Holland, rescued in Bergen Belsen by a Jewish couple who ran an orphanage
there.
Seated from Left: Rene Lichtman, VP of WFJCSH, saved in France, represents
USA and WFJCSH on JRJC. Haim Roet, founder and "leader" of JRJC - Israel,
also saved by Max Leons in the Netherlands and Marianne Picard, rescued
by OSE.
Thanks to the hard work of this "Jerusalem committee" for the
past ten years, and friends from all over the world, Yad Vashem has now
decided to allow Jews who rescued Jews to be recognized in the way that
Righteous Christians are. More to come as the JRJC-Israel is writing an
article on the subject. When speaking of Jewish Resistance, we now have
new models.
